REFLECTION

• What have I learnt in this module?

Throughout the Principles of Design course, I have gained invaluable insights into the fundamental principles that underpin effective design. Here are some key learnings I have derived from the course:1. Understanding the Importance of Composition: Learning about concepts such as balance, symmetry, and proportion has taught me how to create visually appealing compositions. I now recognize the significance of organizing elements within a design to achieve harmony and unity.2. Harnessing the Power of Color and Contrast: Exploring the principles of color theory and contrast has enabled me to use color effectively in my designs. I have learned how color choices can evoke different emotions and convey specific messages to the audience.3. Applying Gestalt Principles: Learning about Gestalt principles has provided me with valuable insights into how humans perceive and interpret visual information. I now understand how factors such as proximity, similarity, and closure can influence the viewer's perception of a design.

Throughout the Principles of Design course, I've not only learned about design fundamentals but also had the opportunity to apply these principles to real-world scenarios, particularly in the context of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) 7 - Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.

• What did I enjoy the most?

In this course, I found Task 2 and Task 3 to be the most enjoyable. Task 2, analyzing a designer's work, was particularly fascinating because it allowed me to deepen my understanding of design principles. Through analyzing a specific work, I could apply the design principles I had learned and delve into the designer's creative process, style, and personal stories, gaining insights into their thought process.

Task 3, creating a design based on UNSDG Goal 7 and the chosen designer's style, was a rewarding experience. It required me to use my imagination and seek visual inspiration to develop my design. After completing the design, I felt a sense of accomplishment as it not only deepened my understanding of design principles but also enhanced my appreciation for the designer's style and the importance of UNSDGs.

However, I found the initial part of Task 1 less enjoyable. Selecting a designer whose work aligns with the chosen theme was challenging, especially since there might be fewer design works related to my chosen theme. This made the search for relevant design works more difficult and sometimes tedious.Overall, despite some challenges, the tasks in this course provided valuable learning experiences and allowed me to explore the intersection of design principles, sustainable development goals, and the works of influential designers.

• What have I learnt about myself through this module?

1. Appreciation for Design Principles: I realize that my understanding and application of design principles have improved. By analyzing the works of designers and creating my own designs, I gained a deeper understanding of how to apply principles such as balance, contrast, and repetition to create visual works.

2. Imagination and Creativity: In Task 3, I found that I have a certain level of imagination and creativity. By considering how to combine the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with the selected designer's style, I learned to unleash my imagination and seek creative inspiration in the design process.

3. Research and Analysis Skills: Through Task 2, I improved my research and analysis skills. By uncovering design principles and stylistic characteristics from the works of designers, I learned how to analyze and understand the stories and meanings behind design works more deeply.

• What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

My knowledge of design principles, sustainability issues, and influential designers has expanded significantly. I now have a deeper understanding of how design can contribute to addressing global challenges and promoting social change.Engaging in tasks that required creative thinking and imagination has enhanced my creativity. I have learned to think outside the box and explore innovative solutions to design problems.This learning experience has heightened my awareness of the importance of sustainable development goals and the role of design in addressing them. I am now more conscious of how design can be used as a tool for social and environmental impact.
