INSTRUCTIONS
LECTURES
You will develop an infographic to communicate a concept, topic or idea - IN THIS CASE A COMPLETE SET INSTRUCTION TO A RECIPE.
The infographic should take viewer visually through information you want them to learn or know. Based on your infographic the audience should be able to learn through viewing and interpreting the various graphical information and text.
You will be required to evaluate what parts of the topic, concept, or idea are most important to tell/demonstrate and ask how you would represent each piece of information best.
You will also decide how to graphically represent the most salient facts about your topic, concept or idea for student learning. This includes the finishing outcome which could be a slick animation or even a rough stop motion.
Requirement:
You will need to reflect the following (assessment criteria):
Practical - photo editing/illustration software, video/animation software (i.e After Effects/Animate)
Graph, charts and diagrams
Animation principles
Theoretical :
(Information Design Framework)
Information type
Device
Principles (LATCH etc)
Aesthetics i.e: isometric, simplified illustrations
We need to find Pasta Grannies' channel on YouTube and find a video there to create a recipe information poster.
I found a video about Panettone, and I think bread would be easier to draw.
I experimented with using Adobe Illustrator to draw the necessary ingredient elements for creating a video infographic poster. During this process, I practiced essential vector design skills such as shape building, path editing, and color coordination. At the same time, I focused on how to transform these visual elements into graphics that effectively communicate information. By simplifying and unifying the style of the ingredients, I aimed to make the visuals both engaging and informative. This experience also helped me become more familiar with the full workflow—from asset creation to layout design—providing a solid foundation for my upcoming video infographic project.
In the final poster design, I placed the Panettone at the center to establish it as the main visual focus. The overall background uses a warm yellow tone to echo the color of the bread, creating a cozy and appetizing visual atmosphere.
In terms of information layout, I applied the LATCH framework to structure the design:
Location: The Panettone is positioned at the center, while the left and right sides are used for different content sections, creating a clear spatial organization.
Category: The ingredients and their quantities are grouped and placed on the left side, allowing viewers to quickly access essential information.
Hierarchy: The process steps are arranged on the right side using variations in text size, layout, and visual flow to guide the viewer through the information logically.
Time: The process section follows a chronological order—from preparation to fermentation to baking—enhancing narrative clarity.
Alphabet: The ingredient list is organized in a structured order (such as a list format) to improve readability and clarity.
Overall, the design balances visual appeal and functionality by combining a strong central composition with the structured logic of the LATCH framework, making the information both engaging and easy to understand.
REFLECTION
This project also made me realize that a good infographic is not just visually appealing, but also effective in delivering information clearly and efficiently. By applying the LATCH framework, I learned how to organize complex information into a more structured and logical format, improving readability and user experience. In terms of color and layout, I aimed to maintain consistency between visual style and content—for example, using warm yellow tones to reflect the nature of the bread—which strengthened the overall coherence of the design.
Overall, this experience shifted my mindset from simply creating visually attractive designs to focusing on communication-driven design. It enhanced my layout and organizational skills, and will help me apply a more systematic and user-centered approach in future information design projects.
