Observation
In Task1, completing the eight typographic systems gave me a deeper understanding of the diversity and flexibility of typography. Each system has its unique way of conveying visuals and information, which required me to carefully observe and analyze the relationships between different elements. In the TYPE & PLAY project, designing a coral-inspired font made me realize how font design can incorporate natural elements to create a unique visual experience.
Discovery
In Task2, for the Key Artwork task, I designed a custom font using my English name. This experience made me realize that font design is not just about aesthetics; it also involves conveying brand personality and emotion. Creating several artworks helped me understand the expressiveness and adaptability of fonts in different application contexts. Every detail, including the shape of the letters, the thickness of the lines, and decorative elements, can significantly impact the overall feel and brand image of the font.
Experience
Task3's challenge was to design an entire typeface, which was a new experience for me. During this process, I learned how to systematically design from concept to final product. Designing a typeface requires not only aesthetic considerations but also readability and functionality in practical use. Throughout this journey, I learned how to maintain consistency in design while also being innovative. I also learned the importance of accepting feedback and making adjustments to enhance the final work's quality.
This project profoundly impacted my understanding of the importance of observation, discovery, and continuous improvement in design. I learned how to analyze and solve problems from different perspectives, which not only improved my design skills but also enhanced my design thinking abilities. These experiences will have a lasting impact on my future design work, helping me continue to grow in the field of design.
